SBHack Success Stories

In this series, we want to share with you some success stories from our past SBHacks

In 2021, the second Swiss Blockchain Hackathon (SBHACK) took place. Hackers worked simultaneously remote from their homes, in Zürich, Lugano, and Geneva to tackle the challenges. More than 400 people participated from the international blockchain community with a total of 346 hacker profiles.

In preparation for this year's SBHACK22 that joined forces with HackZurich - Europe's biggest hackathon - we would like to share success stories from previous SBHACKs. In previous years we had marvelous teams and innovative solutions, with some teams continuing their ideas beyond the hack and working on establishing a product, service, or offer.
Discover more about their experience, key takeaways, and learnings why participating in the SBHACK can be a life-changing event.

  • Have you learned a lot of things you didn’t even focus on or knew about before?

Definition of an MVP which is achievable with the given time and resources and innovative ways how to present/sell this to an audience

  • You realized a hackathon idea after the hack and turned it into a company/product - tell us more about how that came together. What was crucial for this to happen?

For one of the ideas, we could develop a PoC within the Hackathon which was the foundation for a successful application of an Innosuisse project which is at the moment well on its way to delivering a commercial solution.

  • If you have to give three tips for the hackers of this or a future hackathon; what would these be?
  1. A good schedule agreed upon by all Team members is key for the three phases ideation – realization – presentation.
  2. Have a plan B ready for critical review of plan A in the realization phase at a predefined milestone.
  3. Defined roles in the team which allow parallel working.

  • You realized a hackathon idea after the hack and turned it into a company/product - tell us more about how that came together. What was crucial for this to happen

The SBHack took place shortly after we launched our tech venture builder and is a bit a part of our beginning. With the invented Velove App we reward the reduction of the personal CO2 footprint. It stayed with the prototype, though we still like to show it. But we have been allowed to accelerate enough other ventures ;-)

  • Have you learned a lot of things you didn’t even focus on or knew about before?

We did not expect to establish so much contact with platform and service partners as well as potential investors.

  • If you have to give three tips for the hackers of this or a future hackathon; what would these be?
      1. Distribute the tasks according to the strengths of the team and just get started.
      2. Think about to whom the idea is worth something and why and how you pitch it .
      3. It never hurts to have a UX guy on board to make your thing usable and beautiful.

Trust Square. Beyond Technology.

For the first time, winning teams will progress to join a state-of-the-art Blockchain incubator program hosted by CV Labs.
